Description

These are a pair of gate-piers located about 100 metres south-south-east of Higher Fuge, dating from the 18th century, possibly 1726, which is the date associated with Higher Fuge. The gate-piers are slender and square in shape, featuring dressed slate plinths and rusticated red sandstone shafts. Each shaft has a thin moulded necking and is topped with a moulded limestone cornice cap, which supports a large limestone urn decorated with acanthus and fluted designs.
