Description
The building is a barn located immediately northwest of Hansel Cottage, likely dating from the 17th or 18th century, with heightening that occurred in the 19th century. It is constructed from local slate rubble and features a slurried slate roof with gabled ends. The barn has a rectangular plan and is situated on a steeply sloping site, with the right-hand (southwest) end built into the bank, providing access to the loft through a doorway at that end.
The exterior is two storeys high. The southeast elevation includes a wide loft doorway above and a small window for the loft. The northwest rear elevation has a central doorway flanked by small windows, with a loft window located above. There are no openings in the lower northeast end. The higher right-hand (southwest) end features a wide loft doorway with a timber lintel and 20th-century plank double doors. Although the interior was not inspected, 19th-century soft-wood scissor-braced trusses were noted.
