Description
This barn, located approximately 40 metres west-southwest of West Pitten Farmhouse, dates from the 16th or 17th century, with the north end possibly rebuilt in the 18th or 19th century using some of the original granite. It is constructed of slate rubble with granite quoins and features a slate roof that has a half-hipped north end and a gabled south end clad in corrugated iron.
The east side, which faces the yard, includes a large chamfered elliptically arched granite cart entrance, while there is no corresponding door on the west side. The west side also has a granite two-light window with hollow chamfers and ventilation slits. Additionally, there is a horse engine house from the 18th century on the west side, which has a polygonal end and a hipped roof. A 20th-century lean-to cattle shelter is present on the east side in the yard.
The original farmhouse was destroyed by fire, and this barn is part of a group of contemporary farm buildings that surround three sides of a yard. The existing farmhouse on the fourth (east) side was built in the late 19th or early 20th century and is situated near the original farmhouse's location.
