Description

Farmhouse, dating to around the late 17th century and early 19th century. The front range has stuccoed walls, while the rear wing has exposed slate rubble walls. The front has a hipped slate roof, and the rear wing has a gabled roof. Brick stacks are located at the rear gable end and at each end of the front. The original plan of the house suggests the rear section was truncated when the front was built, and the rear section originally comprised three rooms, with a larger, heated central room and a passage leading to a newel staircase. The front block now has two principal rooms and a central entrance hall.

The exterior is two storeys with an attic to the rear wing. The front has a symmetrical appearance with five tall, late 20th-century replacement windows – these are designed to mimic 12-pane, horned sashes. A central round-headed doorway is flanked by a 6-panel door, dating to the early 19th century, and a semi-circular fanlight above. A contemporary verandah, supported on wooden pillars, runs along the front. The rear wing has a 19th-century lean-to along its outer face, and late 20th-century small-paned casements and a late 17th-century studded plank door to the left of its centre.

Inside the rear wing, the main room features roughly chamfered cross beams, one of which has a hollow step with run-out stops. The timber newel stair has a short section of 17th-century balustrade at the top, with a heavy moulded handrail and turned balusters. On the first floor, there is an 18th-century fielded 2-panel door and a contemporary cupboard, both with fielded panel doors and H-L hinges. The front part of the house has panelled shutters and moulded plaster cornices in the two ground floor front rooms.
