Description
The granary located north-northwest of Broadley Farmhouse dates from around the mid-19th century. It features a weatherboarded timber frame with slight scantling, now clad in corrugated iron on two sides. The structure is supported by slate rubble staddles and has a rag slate hipped roof, which is grouted on the underside. The granary is rectangular in shape, with a doorway at the center of the north long side and a small window on the south side. It stands on twelve staddles arranged in four rows of three, which are circular in plan with a pronounced batter and large round slate caps. The staddles are taller on the south side due to the sloping ground. Inside, the walls are lined with timber boarding, and the sawn softwood roof features nailed or bolted trusses. This type of granary is uncommon in Devon.
