Description

Curtisknowle Cottage is an estate cottage dating to circa 1840, with later additions in the late 19th or early 20th century and the mid-20th century, significantly altering the exterior. The construction is of slate rubble, partially slate-hung on the ground floor to the left, and slate-hung on the left-hand side. It has an asbestos slate roof with gabled ends and a slate-hung stack on the left-hand gable end. Originally, the cottage followed a two-room plan with a central entrance. The room to the right was unheated, and the left-hand room contained a gable end stack. A wing was added behind the left-hand room in the late 19th or early 20th century, featuring a gable end stack and an integral outshut in the angle. Around 1950, the outshut was heightened to two storeys. Externally, the cottage presents a two-storey, two-window front. It features 19th-century two-light casement windows with glazing bars, set within cambered red brick arches and slate sills. A central doorway is accessed via a 19th-century panelled door and a 19th-century open-fronted gabled porch with a slate roof. The interior has not been inspected.
