Description
The Mill at Mill Bay Cove is a disused limekiln that has been converted into a watermill and boathouse designed to resemble a sham castle. It dates from the early 19th century, with extensions and remodels made in the mid to late 19th century. The structure is built of slate rubble and features a squat circular tower, which is the original limekiln, enhanced by an embattled corbelled parapet and a round turret, also adorned with battlements. The building includes a pointed arch Gothick doorway with a continuous hoodmould and small pointed arch openings on either side. It is constructed on rocks into the cliff, and at the lower level, on the beach, there is an additional lower tower with a semi-circular front facing the sea, which has small Gothick windows and a small round corbelled turret on the parapet. This lower tower houses an iron water wheel. The mill is located at the edge of the beach at Mill Bay Cove, where a small stream flows into the sea.
