Description
No. 53 High Street is a shop with accommodation above, dating from the early 19th century. The building has a rendered, solid front wall and a tarred, slated roof, with a red brick chimney on the left gable wall. It stands three storeys high, plus a garret, and features a plain, two-window front. The ground storey has a late 20th-century shopfront, while the upper storey windows are 6-paned sashes, except for a blind window to the right on the third storey. There is a lightly moulded board below the eaves, and a dormer with a slightly curved top that has 6-paned sashes at the front, with the sides also glazed with four lights each. The rendered rear wall, which can be seen from the side alley to the right, includes a good canted bay window made of wood on the second storey, and a sash window with one upright glazing bar per sash on the third storey. The rear section of the left-hand side wall, visible from the side alley to the left, is slate hung. The interior has not been inspected. This house is part of a listed group that includes Nos. 51 and 52 High Street.
