Description
This is a pedestal tomb, dated 1876, located 15 metres north-east of the Church of St John the Baptist in East Down. The tomb is designed in the form of a temple, featuring anthemion and acroteria on top of a moulded pediment. It has representational low relief sculpture between pilasters, which stand above moulded bases that contain inscriptions. The sculpture depicts a female figure mourning over a draped and garlanded urn, situated beneath an overhanging tree. The main inscription commemorates Anne Arthur, who died in 1877, along with other later family inscriptions around the base.
