Description
NORTH MOLTON THE SQUARE (north side), SS 7229-7329 18/185 Group of 5 chest tombs and headstones approximately 21 metres to south of south aisle of Church of All Saints GV II Group of 5 chest tombs and headstones. Mid to late C18 and early C19. Sandstone. Headstone approximately 19 metres to south of aisle. Mid to late C18. Scrolled top with carved winged cherubs' heads. Inscription to Thomas Bright. Headstone approximately 19 metres to south of aisle. Mid to late C18. Moulded raised oval panel with carved winged cherubs' heads in spandrels, and scrolled top with carved winged cherub's head to centre. Inscription illegible at time of survey (October 1987). Chest tomb approximately 21 metres to south of aisle. Dated 1800. C20 repointing. Coved cornice to flat top. Inscription to William Bright (d. 2nd December 1800). Pair of headstones (back to back) approximately 24 metres to south of aisle. Mid to late C18. Larger headstone to west has shaped head with shallow carved winged cherub's head. Inscription to member of the Bright family. Smaller nouy-headed headstone to west. Well carved with central crown flanked by putti, each holding wreath in one hand and (palm?) frond in the other. Fronds flanking inscription (illegible at time of survey) too.
