Description
Windrush is a house dating from the early 17th century, constructed of rendered stone rubble and cob. It has a slate roof on the left end and a thatched roof on the right, both featuring gable ends. The building includes a tall front lateral hall stack with offsets and a cross-passage at the right end, with the hall to the left and a former outbuilding incorporated into the dwelling beyond. The house is two storeys high and has a four-window range. The 20th-century windows include two-light casements with six panes per light on the left side and four panes per light on the right. The ground floor features two-light casements with six panes per light flanking a nine-paned fixed light, along with a 20th-century porch at the right end. There is a 20th-century outshut at the rear with an asbestos slate roof. Inside, there is a four-centred arched doorway with a chamfered surround and diagonal stops at the rear of the hall, likely originally leading to a former stair turret, now providing access to the rear outshut. The roof structure has largely been replaced in the 19th century, but a single principal from the 17th-century truss remains, featuring threaded purlins and a soffit mortice for a former collar.
