Description

Stoodleigh Barton is a farmhouse that likely dates from the mid to late 17th century and includes a lofted outbuilding, a linhay, and farm courtyard walls. The outbuildings were built in the late 18th or early 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed from rendered stone and cob, topped with an asbestos slate roof and featuring brick stacks at each gable end. The lofted outbuilding is made of stone rubble and has a half-hipped asbestos slate roof. The linhay is also built of stone rubble, with some brick, and has a slate roof. The courtyard walls are made of unrendered cob.

The farmhouse has a symmetrical layout with a principal room on each side of a two-storey porch that leads to a through passage. There is a service wing at a right angle to the rear left side, creating an L-shape. The lofted outbuilding is attached to the right gable end of the farmhouse and has access to the loft on the first floor. The linhay continues from the rear service wing, with cob walls enclosing the rear courtyard on the remaining two sides. The farmhouse is two storeys high and features a five-window range, including the two-storey porch. All windows are early 20th-century three-light casements with three panes per light, except for the porch, which has a two-light casement with two panes per light. The inner door is a four-panelled design. The interior of the farmhouse is not accessible but appears to have been largely remodeled in the late 19th or early 20th century.
