Description
The Bishops Tawton War Memorial is a war memorial cross dating from 1920, made of dressed Cornish granite. It features a three-stepped square base topped by a tapering shaft and a wheel cross. The front face of the cross displays a carved Celtic design, with bosses at each end of the arms and at the center. There are bronze plaques with inscriptions on three faces of the bottom step. The first face honors the men of the parish who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War from 1914 to 1919, listing their names. The second face honors those who served in the Great War from 1939 to 1945, also listing names. The third face is dedicated to others who served, with their names inscribed as well.
