Description
The Smyth memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 9 metres south of the west tower of the Church of All Saints in North Molton. It dates from the early to mid 18th century and is made of sandstone. The tomb features a moulded cornice on its flat top. The top slab has an inscription dedicated to John Smyth of Bentwitchen, who was buried on 23rd February in an unspecified year, along with another inscription dated 25th April 1892. The east end of the tomb has an inscription for William Smyth, who was buried on 12th March 1724 at the age of 45, and for his daughter Elizabeth, who was buried on 20th October 1740 at the age of 36. Additionally, the north side of the tomb bears an inscription for Henry Smyth, who died at Bentwitchen on 25th August 1815 and was buried on 2nd September 1815 at the age of 82.
