Description
The School Chapel in Chittlehampton was built in 1874. It is constructed of stone rubble and clad with weather-boarding, featuring a pantiled roof with shaped bargeboards at the gable ends, clay ridge tiles, and an apex cross at the east end. The chapel has a small rectangular plan with an entrance porch on the south side towards the west end and an integral lean-to vestry on the north side towards the east end. The chapel showcases complete 19th-century fenestration with timber windows, including a large 4-light window and a 3-light window at the west end, and two 2-light windows on the south side, all with cusped-headed lights. The south porch has a plank door and a gabled roof with shaped bargeboards. This school chapel was built as a temporary structure on land rented from the railway company, funded by the then rector, Reverend Robert Trefusis.
