Description
This barn, located about 10 metres north-west of Acland Barton, is likely from the 17th century. It is constructed of stone rubble with cob above and features a slate roof with gable ends. The barn has a rectangular shape and was formerly two storeys or partially lofted, but the floor has now been removed.
On the front left side, there is an outshut made of snecked rubble with a corrugated roof, which encloses a blocked doorway flanked by ventilation windows that have deep splays. To the right, there is a door opening and a timber mullion window with a chamfered surround and timber lintel. At the rear, a square loft opening and a plank door provide access to the former first floor.
Inside, the barn has four heavy trusses with principals that have short curved feet resting on a continuous timber wall plate. The collars are intact on the two trusses towards the right end, while the other two have had their collars removed. There are two tiers of threaded purlins and a diagonally set ridge purlin.
