Description

Garden walls, gatepiers, and gates located to the east of Bickleigh Castle date back to the 17th century. The gates were re-erected at Bickleigh in 1926 and restored in the late 20th century. The structure features stone rubble walls and snecked stone gate piers, which are square in shape and topped with ball finials. The pair of elaborate carriage gates, believed to be of Italian origin, are intricately scrolled at the top and richly decorated with scroll-work and gilded leaves. These gates are a fine example and contribute to the setting of Bickleigh Castle.
