Description
Burford Bridge is a road bridge that spans the River Yeo, built in the early to mid 19th century. It features snecked masonry made from roughly squared blocks of volcanic and mudstone, with brick arches and a granite string course and coping. The bridge has a double span with segmental brick arches supported by vertical abutments and a central low pointed cutwater. At road level, there is a plain projecting granite string course, and the parapet is topped with rounded granite coping. The terminal piers at each end of the bridge project slightly outward and have flat pyramid-shaped coping. Both embankments are revetted with volcanic stone, finished with granite or replacement concrete coping. This location marks the parish boundary, with the eastern end of the bridge in Morchard Bishop parish and the western end in Lapford parish.
