Description
Bury Bridge is a road bridge over the River Yeo, dated 1830, and was built by Roger Tyler for the Trustees of the Exeter Turnpike. It is constructed of snecked grey mudstone and features a rusticated ashlar arch and parapet, with granite coping and a string course. The bridge has a single span with vertical abutments and a segmental arch, where some of the ashlar voussoirs are incised to resemble two headers for visual regularity. A plain granite string course at road level slightly ramps towards the center. The rusticated ashlar parapet is topped with granite coping that is slightly weathered on each side. The walls curve outwards at each end, with ashlar terminal piers that project slightly. On the inner face of the eastern parapet, there is a granite plaque with concave corners that reads, "Bury Bridge erected Anno 1830 at the expense of the Trustees of the Exeter Turnpike. Roger Tyler builder." The river serves as the parish boundary here, with the southern end of the bridge located in Morchard Bishop and the northern end in Lapford.
