Description
The Manor House is a large house, likely dating from the 1820s, but incorporating elements and materials from an earlier Manor House that existed on the site before 1743. The building was divided into four separate dwellings. It is stuccoed with a slate roof and end stacks with brick shafts. The overall plan is in a U-shape.
The symmetrical front has two storeys and five bays. It features deep eaves supported by paired brackets, with a reeded frieze below and an order of paterae below the frieze. A central Tuscan porch has moulded bases and capitals, as well as pilasters to the rear. The front door is recessed and consists of six panels within a reeded doorcase. There are four original eight/twelve-pane sash windows on each floor, retaining some old glass. A circa 1840s single-storey brick lean-to porch has been added to the right side, featuring a Tudor arched doorway and a four-panel door.
The rear elevation includes sash windows to the main block. The rear left wing contains a late 17th-century moulded doorframe and 18th-century windows with square leaded panes facing into a courtyard which is paved with pitched stones.
The interior was not inspected during the survey, but it is noted to contain a grand open well staircase with stick balusters. A building called the Manor House is depicted on a plan of Crediton in 1743, the year of the great fire.
