Description
This building is a linhay and byre located approximately 15 metres south of Westcott Farmhouse, likely dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of cob on rubble footings with some later rubble patching, and it has a corrugated iron roof that was formerly thatched. The structure features a continuous block facing north, consisting of a 4-bay linhay on the left (east) and a byre with a hayloft above on the right (west).
The open-fronted linhay, classified as Alcocks type T1, has large posts resting on stone pads that support crossbeams for the hayloft. At the top, there is a central slot for the front principal of the A-frame trusses, which are joined with pegged lap joints. The byre includes a wide doorway on the left with a 19th-century plank door that has wrought iron strap hinges, and a small window on the right with a loading hatch above. Inside the byre, there are late 19th-century timber stalls, along with plain-finished crossbeams from the 17th century and an A-frame truss roof featuring pegged lap-jointed collars. This building is included for its group value.
