Description

The Old Rectory is a house that was formerly a rectory, built in 1859 according to parish records. It features plastered rubble walls, with rubble stacks topped by 19th-century brick and a coated slate roof. The building is L-shaped, consisting of a two-room main block that faces southeast, with end stacks, and a two-room crosswing that projects forward on the left (southwest) end, which has a central axial stack. The house is two storeys tall.

The main block has a regular four-window front, made up of 16-pane sash windows, many of which have horns. There is a door at the left end and a window to the left of centre, both set behind a late 19th-century porch and conservatory that has a red tile roof. The conservatory features a glazed front containing a sash window with glazing bars and margin panes. The porch projects slightly and includes a plank door with Gothic-style strap hinges that have fleur-de-lys finials, a half-hipped roof, and a glazed front on a low rubble wall. The glazing in the porch is mostly original, with glazing bars creating geometric shapes and containing leaded glass patterns, some of which are coloured. The eaves are plain and deep, and the roof is gable-ended to the right, with the stack at that end projecting slightly.

The front gable end of the cross wing has a canted bay window with a forward 16-pane sash and flanking 8-pane sashes on the ground floor, a 16-pane sash on the first floor, and a blind recess in the gable, which may be a blocked attic light. The southwest front, which overlooks the garden, has a two-window layout with canted bay windows similar to those on the end at ground floor and 16-pane sashes on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
