Description
The wall to the north of Church Lane, including the gateway and return in Church Street, is likely from the 1840s. It is constructed of snecked local volcanic trap rubble, with the gateway made of local volcanic trap ashlar. This tall, coped wall runs along the north side of Church Lane and extends up Church Street. It was formerly the boundary wall of the vicarage, now known as Glebe House. The gateway, located towards the west end of Church Lane, features Gothic Revival design elements, including a tall gable with moulded coping above a hollow-chamfered doorway that has a Tudor arched head and a square-headed hoodmould with label stops. The door is a Tudor arched timber plank with a cover strip. This structure is included for its group value.
