Description

The Wills headstone, dated 1690, is located approximately 1.5 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Mary. This headstone is made of Hamstone and features an upright slab with an elliptical head, standing about 1.2 metres high. The front of the headstone has a sunken panel bordered on each side by carved guilloche. Below the head, there is a carving of a winged cherub's head, which is flanked by a skull and crossbones and an hourglass. The inscription is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering and commemorates the death of John Wills in 1690.
