Description
The Post Office is a building that likely dates from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a deep slate roof with crested ridge tiles, pyramidal ends, and a pyramidal roof over the central bay, along with a brick stack in the center. The building has a symmetrical T-shaped plan with a projecting polygonal bay at the center, polygonal ends, and a central entrance. There is a 20th-century flat-roofed single-storey addition at the rear right.
This single-storey and attic structure is designed to take advantage of its corner location in the village. The polygonal bay, made of timber stud and infill construction, has a central front door flanked by three 1-light iron casement windows with diamond iron glazing bars on each side. Above the front door is a gabled dormer with similar windows. The polygonal ends of the stone block feature three-light windows and 1-light windows in the angles, along with gabled dormers. The rear elevation includes two gabled dormers, a central rear door, and a recess on the rear left. It is unclear whether this building was purpose-built as a village post office or adapted from a pair of estate cottages. It is a crucially-sited building in the center of the village.
