Description
The Dolphin is a public house that reopened in 1850 after a serious fire and has undergone some 20th-century alterations, including changes to some windows on the left end. The building is whitewashed and rendered with a slate roof that is hipped at the ends, featuring an axial stack on the main block. It stands two storeys high with an asymmetrical front that has five windows. An approximately central porch with a hipped slate roof is supported by posts, and there is an additional doorway on the front to the left.
On the first floor, there are three 16-pane sash windows to the left of the porch, one 20-pane sash to the right, and paired 8-pane sashes further to the right. The ground floor has a 16-pane sash window to the left of the porch, a 20-pane sash to the right of the porch, and another 16-pane sash to the right. Additionally, small 20th-century 4-pane windows have been added to the left on the ground floor. The Dolphin is located in the center of Thorverton, facing the Bury and Dinneford Street. Despite some altered windows, the exterior remains very important to the village's character.
