Description

Great Dorweeke Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a core dating back to the 17th century, though it was largely rebuilt in the 19th century. The building is constructed of roughcast cob with stone footings and features a half-hipped thatched roof. Originally, it had a three-room, through-passage layout with a rear wing for the inner room. There is a left-hand stack at the lower end and an axial stack at the higher end of the hall, both with brick shafts. The farmhouse has two storeys.

The front of the house has a five-window range, with all upper windows consisting of two lights and featuring 19th-century casements, each with four panes per light and margin panes. On the ground floor, there are three identical windows to the right of the doorway, which has panelled reveals and pilasters, and is sheltered by a later 20th-century pantiled porch. To the left of the doorway, a window has been converted into a French window with glazing bars. The right-hand end of the house has a three-light window on the first floor with deeply chamfered mullions and surround, and a 19th-century window below it.

At the rear, there is a slated lean-to with a six-light 19th-century casement window and two two-light 19th-century windows above. Notably, the gable wall of a barn located 7 metres east of the farmhouse features a single-light medieval window, likely from the 15th century, which is trefoil-headed under a square hood mould and has a deeply chamfered surround with a glazing groove.
