Description

Bodham's is a detached house, formerly a farmhouse, dating from around 1700. The building features plastered and roughcast random rubble flint and cob, topped with a hipped and gable end corrugated asbestos roof. Originally designed as a two-room house with a baffle entry plan, it has a later wing added to the rear of the right-hand room, likely in the early 19th century. A bathroom, with a chamber above, has also been added to the right-hand end of the main range.

The house stands two storeys tall. The front elevation was originally designed with two windows but now has three. The first floor has two-light casement windows, some of which include glazing bars. On the ground floor, there is a four-pane horned sash window in the left-hand room and a three-light casement window in the right-hand room, along with a two-light window for the bathroom. A stone porch leads to a wide planked and studded door. The left-hand end features casement windows, although the gable wall has been rebuilt in breezeblock. The rear wing has a four-light casement window on the first floor with eight leaded panes per light, and a 19th-century six-light window on the ground floor. There is also a three-light 19th-century casement window on the opposite side.

Inside, the right-hand room has a chamfered cross ceiling beam with run-out stops and a fireplace with bead moulding on the jambs and lintel, which are pegged together and appear to be very early 18th century. There are two doors with large fielded panels, one featuring HL hinges. The left-hand room has been altered, with an eroded lintel on the fireplace. The original roof structure above the right-hand room remains intact, consisting of one collar rafter truss that is morticed and pegged at the apex, along with a full set of rafters pegged over the ridge piece. The roof of the wing features principals that are halved and pegged at the apex.
