HOCKWORTHY Barn and sheds approximately 5 metres north of Thornlands Farmhouse

GV II

Barn. Probably C17, refurbished in the C19. Local stone rubble and some sections are of larger squared blocks laid to rough courses; slate roof. Plan: threshing barn facing south-east. It has large full height opposing doorways right of centre onto the threshing floor. Secondary sheds have been built across the front either side of the entrance. Exterior: to left of the barn doorway there is an open fronted cartshed, its leanto roof supported by one tapering stone rubble column of circular section and another of C20 concrete blocks. The shed to left of it under a continuous lean to roof contains a small fixed pane C20 window containing a diamond pattern of leaded glass. Its doorway is in the end. The shed to right of the barn entrance contains a C20 plank door. The lean-to roof of these secondary sheds is continuous and linked across the front of the barn doorway as a hood. Both front and rear barn doorways are flanked by short projecting midstrey walls and contain C19 double doors. Barn roof is gable-ended. Interior: of barn is open to the C19 roof. The threshing floor is made up of oak baulks.
