Description

Farmhouse. Built in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, it has undergone later alterations and extensions. The structure is primarily cob with a stone plinth, plastered walls, and a wood shingle roof that is hipped at the left end and gabled at the right end. Originally arranged with a three-room, cross-passage plan, it includes a rear, higher-end wing extending behind both the hall and parlour, similar to Pale Farmhouse in Upexe and Rewe. A 20th-century extension is located on the left-hand side. There are two end stacks, and an axial stack backing onto the site of the former passage, featuring brick shafts. The front elevation now has a seven-window range, with 3-light casement windows on the first floor, three dating to the mid-19th century. The ground floor has four 3-light windows, the majority with three panes per light plus margin panes. A timber and brick, slate-roofed porch covers the present main front entrance, situated between the hall and parlour. French windows are present on the left-hand side. A rear lean-to and a rear wing featuring 20th-century 2- and 3-light casement windows are also present. Inside, the parlour contains a chamfered end fireplace and chamfered, step-stopped cross beams. The hall has two chamfered cross beams with hollow step stops. The fireplace in the hall has unchamfered jambs and a stopped lintel. The roof consists of two late-medieval smoke-blackened roofs. One section has three higher-end trusses, likely upper crucks, morticed and side pegged, with a diagonal ridge piece and trenched purlins. The other section has two later crossed and pegged lower-end trusses, with collars halved and pegged, exhibiting rougher workmanship.
