Description
The cowshed adjoining Ford Farmhouse dates from the 17th century, with a small extension added in the 20th century. It is constructed from plastered cob on rubble footings, featuring a corrugated asbestos roof that replaced the original thatch, and a concrete tile roof on the extension. The gable-ended block faces south and is built onto the west end of Ford Farmhouse. A 20th-century lean-to extension runs across the center and right end, partially blocking a window. On the left side, there is a doorway with a loading hatch to the hayloft above, both of which were remodeled in the 19th century with segmental heads. Inside, the cowshed has roughly-finished crossbeams from the 17th century and a contemporary three-bay roof supported by A-frame trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars. At the left end, a high plastered cob wall with slate coping extends a short distance westward, containing a doorway that connects the cowshed to a nearby barn. This cowshed is part of an attractive farmyard alongside the picturesque Ford Farmhouse.
