Description
The White Hart Hotel is a late Georgian building, roughcast and three stories tall, situated on South Street. It is fronted by an older structure that likely dates back to the 16th century. The hotel features four sash windows with glazing bars, two of which are joined in the center, probably replacing a casement window. It has rusticated quoins and a cornice at the parapet. The wide doorway opening, which dates from the early 19th century, leads to a slate roof. Inside, a sloping cobbled floor extends from the doorway to the inn yard. The woodwork, including a Gothic glazed door to the staircase, appears to be from the late 18th or early 19th century. The building includes a semi-circular stairwell that may be medieval in origin. Although the interior has been significantly modernized, it is labeled as a "14th Century Hostelry." The hotel is part of a group with Nos 58 to 68, which are consecutive properties.
