Description
The Salutation Hotel, located at No. 68 Fore Street in Topsham, is a Grade II* listed building, likely built around 1720. The main part of the front features three storeys and four windows, with actual sashes and later bays. It has a modillion cornice. To the left, there is a prominent projecting wing supported by later brick piers, which has a hipped roof, a modillion eaves cornice, and an impressive first-floor Venetian window with pilasters and a broken pediment. The interior of this wing was used as an Assembly Room. The panelled gates leading to the yard entry appear older than the 18th century and include a smaller separate door opening. All windows are sashes with glazing bars, and there are two canted bays on the ground floor, with the right-hand bay featuring an entrance on the forward face. The building has a hipped slate roof. The listed buildings along Fore Street form a cohesive group.
