Description
Easton Buildings is a tailor's shop with a workshop above, dating from the late 18th century, although the basement may be older. The building features a timber frame, with parts covered in slate and weatherboarding, and has brick chimney stacks.
It is situated on a corner site with a deep plan, and the staircase connects the front and rear sections. The exterior has four storeys and a basement, with a single window front facing Little Castle Street. It includes a plate glass two-pane shop window and a 20th-century half-glazed door to the left, accompanied by a side light and overlight. The first floor has an eight over twelve-pane sash window, while the second floor features one original twelve-pane hornless sash window, and the third floor has a four-pane window. The right side of the building has mostly 20th-century windows, except for one twelve-pane sash window (with the upper light reglazed) and one stair sash.
Inside, there is a stick baluster staircase with a late 18th or early 19th-century turned newel post and a ramped handrail. The interior retains stud partitions, large boxed beams, and a panelled dado. There is also evidence of industrial use, including external doorways on the upper floor and a pulley. The brick basement contains an oven of industrial size.
