Description

This is a row of houses, likely dating from the 17th or early 18th century, with alterations made in later periods. Numbers 55 to 58 have later Georgian sash windows. Number 54 has been significantly altered. Number 58 features a small bowed shop window on the corner and an early 19th-century frame to the shop-sign. The houses are two and three storeys high, with irregularly spaced windows including 19th-century sashes, Georgian sashes, and tripartite sashes. A brick string course runs at first-floor level of numbers 57 and 58. The roofs are covered in slate and tile. The ground-floor rooms of numbers 57 and 58 are panelled. The rear elevation presents a good and varied group when viewed from the courtyard. These buildings, along with others in Fore Street, form a group of historical significance.
