Description
The Passage Inn, located on Ferry Road in Topsham, is a 17th-century building that has been altered in the 19th century. It includes No 1 Ferry Terrace and features a three-storey structure with a gabled design similar to Nos 8-10 nearby. The main front is set back, with the first floor covered in slate and the rest of the building made of 18th-century plaster and brick at the rear. The inn has three windows on the front, which are sashes with glazing bars, including some tripartite windows. A notable feature is the good Tuscan doorcase, which has fluted pilasters and a pediment with a modillion cornice. The building has two unequal gables and two attic windows. There is also a lead tablet inscribed "T N Pake 1788," which was once part of a cistern. The roof is partly tiled and partly covered with tarred slate. The Passage Inn, along with Nos 8 to 10, Nos 13 to 15, the Nail House, and the Nail Cellars, forms a cohesive group of historic structures.
