Description

The Harbourmaster's House, located on Ferry Road in Topsham, is a block of gabled buildings that likely dates from the late 17th century, with possibly an earlier core. The side facing the river was originally the Custom House and is now used as the Harbourmaster's house and workshop. The building has two storeys and features three timber-framed and plastered front windows with two gables. The sash windows on the ground floor have early glazing bars. Inside, there are ancient piers made of local red stone. The structure was severely damaged by fire in 1971 and has since been rebuilt using a mix of modern materials and facsimile elements.
