House. Circa late C17 with later alterations. Whitewashed rendered cob on stone rubble footings; thatched roof, half-hipped at the left end, gabled at the right end, half-hipped at end of wing; axial stack and end stack to wing. Plan: L plan. The present main range, which fronts the road, is unheated and may have originated as a service block. It is single depth, basically 3 rooms wide, the centre room divided between a large entrance hall containing the stair and small service rooms. The rear right wing consists of 2 heated rooms with late C17 carpentry detail. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3 window front, facing the road, with a gable to the front to right of centre. Wide plank front door to left of centre, probably C18 or C19. 1- and 2-light casement windows, probably C19 except for an early C19 small- pane sash in the gable. The front elevation is blind to the right hand end. The right return has 3 first floor probably C20 12-pane timber sashes and 3 ground floor small-pane timber casements with 2 C20 doors. Interior: Both the heated rooms in the wing have chamfered crossbeams with scroll nick stops. The end room has a probably early C18 fireplace with a rounded back of hand made bricks, there was formerly a winder stair adjacent to the fireplace. Roof: Probably late C17 or C18 with the principals pegged at the apex with nailed collars. An attractive evolved house on a prominent roadside site.
