Description
This is a headstone dated 1727, located approximately 8 metres south of the nave of the Church of St Winifred in Branscombe. It is made of Beerstone ashlar and features a slate plaque. The upright slab stands about 800 millimetres high and has a shaped head. On the front, there is a square-headed slate plaque with a bolection-moulded frame. Above this, the head is intricately carved as a bifurcated scroll over a winged cherub's head, which is flanked by a skull and crossbones. The inscription is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, but the name of the deceased is illegible; however, it is noted that the individual died in 1727.
