Description

The Forge is a working forge dating from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It is constructed of exposed stone rubble, with a thatched roof. The plan consists of the forge itself, with an open-fronted shelter facing east towards the road, and a former woodshed attached to the right.

The front of the building contains two doorways, each with a window to the right. The windows are unglazed and externally shuttered. The left doorway has a replacement two-flap plank door, while the right doorway is blocked. The main doorway is now located at the right end, formerly adjoined to the woodshed. The roof is half-hipped to the right and hipped to the left, extending over the woodshed.

Inside, the space is open to the roof, supported by late 18th and early 19th century A-frame trusses. A 19th-century forge remains in use.
