Description
This is a range of farm buildings located to the north-west of Preston Farmhouse, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with possibly earlier origins. Constructed from local stone and flint rubble, the buildings feature a corrugated iron roof, with the byre having a corrugated asbestos roof that replaced the original thatch. The farm buildings face north-east and are aligned with Preston Farmhouse. From left to right, the structure includes a small byre, a double barn, and a cartshed. The barn and cartshed share a roof and are positioned slightly forward of the byre and farmhouse. The byre is lower than both the farmhouse and barn, featuring a large doorway that was enlarged in the 20th century. The barn has two sets of large opposing doorways, while the cartshed is open at both the front and back. Each section consists of two bays divided by a circular stone rubble column. The roof of the barn and cartshed is half-hipped on the left and hipped on the right, supported by a series of late 18th to early 19th century A-frame trusses.
