Description

Old Newtons is a cottage dating from around the 17th century or earlier, although it was remodelled around the early 19th century. It is constructed of plastered stone rubble, with a thatched roof featuring half-hipped ends. The front facade has a long five-window range, with two and three-light casement windows containing glazing bars. A late 19th-century gabled wooden porch with a thatched roof sits centrally over the doorway. Brick ridge chimney stacks are present. The west end of the cottage functions as a cider house and contains a cider press. Inside, there is a moulded bressummer over the open fireplace. A roof truss at the rear has been cut off, potentially indicating a jointed cruck construction.
