Description

Sand is a house dating back to 1594, built by Rowland Huyshe and subsequently the ancient seat of the Sands, Ashleys, and Huyshes families. It was later used as a farm before its recent restoration as a private residence. The stone front of the house is two storeys high, arranged around an E-plan with projecting wings and a porch. The parapet features gables, saddlestones, and finials. The façade is punctuated by six windows with stone mullioned lights, with those in the Great Hall incorporating transoms. Internally, original screens, panelling, stone fireplaces, and beams survive. Fragments of heraldic glass remain in the Hall window.
