Description

The forecourt walls, gate piers, and pavilion date from around 1700, with some repairs made around 1830 and 1940. The gates are also from approximately 1830. The walls are made of brick with flint coping and limestone caps on the piers, while the gates are wrought iron. The pavilion features brick walls and a stack, topped with a concrete tile roof that was originally thatch.

The front garden to the south of Elliots Farmhouse is enclosed by Flemish bond brick walls. The garden is terraced, and the side walls slope down to follow the terraces. On the top terrace, closest to the farmhouse, each side wall has a gateway flanked by square-section piers with moulded caps and balls on top. Similar piers are located at each front corner, and the front gateway features piers topped with large pineapple caps, containing the circa 1830 gates with spear-headed rails.

On the right (eastern) side wall, there is a small square pavilion facing into the garden. Its brickwork is in Flemish bond with some burnt headers, and it has a pyramid roof. A stack is located on the rear left corner, serving a small room above a brick-vaulted basement. Brick steps lead up to the front over a low segmental arch to the basement. The front has a 19th-century four-panel door with a tall overlight featuring glazing bars, and all openings have a low segmental arch above. On the south side, there is a replacement mullion-and-transom window with glazing bars, and a blind window is present at the rear. Similar forecourt walls and a pavilion can be found at nearby Venn Ottery Barton.
