Description

Old Oak House and Old Coach House date from around 1830 to 1840 and comprise two houses appearing as a single dwelling. The left-hand portion is stuccoed, while the right-hand portion is painted brick with rusticated quoins to the first floor. A plain stucco band runs between the window heads and eaves. The roof is slate, with a low pitch and overhanging eaves featuring carved brackets. There are five windows, with the central one being blind on the inn side; they are recessed sash windows with glazing bars and marginal glazing, with drip moulds above the first-floor windows and over the ground-floor window of Old Oak House.

The entrance to Old Oak House and the private bar of the inn are paired, featuring four-panel doors – the bar door having two glazed panels – and rectangular fanlights. A window to the private bar is adjacent to the doorway. A later, large four-light transomed window and a yard entrance have been added to the ground floor of the inn. The yard entrance has a segmental arch formed by carved wood spandrels and large double doors.

Old Oak House is part of a group that includes the Old Clock House, Red Lion Inn, Sidbury Post Office, School House, Old Coach House, and numbers 103 to 106 (consecutively).
