Description

The Cook chest tomb, dated 1790, is located approximately 11 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Michael in Otterton. This Grade II listed chest tomb is made of limestone ashlar and features a low ridged lid with a soffit-moulded design, resting on a moulded plinth. The corners of the tomb are adorned with large vase-like pilasters that are square in section. The long sides of the tomb have fielded panels surrounded by bead-moulded edges. The north-facing panel commemorates the death of George Cook in 1790, while the south-facing panel, which is very worn, records the deaths of some of his relatives.
