Description
The gate piers and railings adjoining to the south of New Lodge date from around 1800. They are constructed from red brick, featuring bands of flint, with limestone ashlar coping and caps. The structure includes a railed wall that extends southward from New Lodge and contains two wide gateways, although the southern gateway is now disused.
The northern gateway piers are square with rebated corners, adorned with moulded caps and bases, and topped with carved lions sejant holding shields that bear the Rolle arms. A similar pier is located a short distance to the south, which is topped with a pineapple vase. The southern gate piers are alike but include five bands of flint and have pineapple vase caps.
The low connecting walls also feature a band of flint and limestone coping. The railings are made of cast iron, with spear heads and a dograil that has diagonal crosses. Only the southern gateway retains its gate, which has different rails featuring fleur-de-lys heads and diagonal cross braces.
