Description
Rose Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed from plastered local stone and flint rubble, possibly incorporating some cob, with a stone rubble stack that is topped with brick from the 19th and 20th centuries. The roof is thatched. The layout features a three-room lobby entrance plan, with the cottage facing south. The end rooms are unheated, while the central room is heated by an axial stack that backs onto the right (east) room, which may be an addition. The cottage has two storeys and continuous outshots across the rear.
The exterior displays an irregular front with four windows, which are 19th and 20th century casements with glazing bars. The front doorway is slightly to the right of centre and features a late 19th to early 20th century plank door. The roof has half-hipped ends. The interior was not available for inspection at the time of the survey. Rose Cottage is part of an attractive group of listed buildings in the scattered hamlet of Rawridge.
