Description

This is an 18th-century headstone located approximately 18 metres south-east of the chancel of the Church of St Mary in Upottery. It is made of hamstone and stands upright at about 1.3 metres tall. The headstone features a shaped top that is carved with scrolls and a winged cherub's head. Below the head, the panel is framed with carved scrolled foliage. The inscription is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, but it is so lightly incised that it is illegible except in perfect lighting conditions.
