Description

The gates at the entrance to Dulford House, located immediately inside the walled park on the east side, date from the late 19th century and are made of timber. They are a pair of very elaborate gates featuring three tiers of ornamentation and long diagonal struts that extend to the finials of the outer stiles, which curve inward and are intricately carved with animal heads. Dulford House itself was constructed between about 1762 and 1800 but was demolished in the 1930s, replaced by a modest brick house. During the late 19th century, the property was owned by Albert Abid Esq., of Hyderabad, Deccan, India, who made some alterations to the house and is likely responsible for the creation of these gates.
